Love to Learn, Learn to Teach

Passion for SpEd

Starting this ADL Program has really fueled and inspired my mind to think about any and all possible ways to motivate SpEd students and keep them engaged while learning. Since starting my education career, SpEd has had my full and undivided attention. I started my education 2 ½ years ago when first stepping foot in an APPLE Classroom assisting with children on all levels of the Autism spectrum. Before working with SpEd students, I have always felt amazed by their different abilities and how capable they are regardless of learning disabilities. SpEd students don’t let their disabilities get in their way. If they want to learn, they will be engaged and ready for proper instructions.

Not only am I wanting all SpEd students to enjoy learning while using technology, but I also want to get them engaged in different areas other than the classroom. My why, ‘Inspiring SpEd students to learn from a different setting can increase social, emotional, and cognitive ability’ not only focuses on inside the classroom, but also focuses on students' social ability as well. All students regardless of ability should be able to learn from other students, teachers, and any support staff willing to step in and assist.

Emerging Issues

Since the pandemic, technology has improved, changed the world, and taught us a new way of learning. To be able to utilize the resources that come with learning from technology can not only enhance a student's learning, but can also minimize the amount of time needed to teach a student. Technology allows resources to be taught quickly and more efficiently.

While utilizing technology, students can work on different resources when they choose, they are still getting all their proper learning, but more efficiently and quickly. Having your students' peers teach them how to utilize technology was not a bad idea in this video clip. When kids have a chance to learn from their peers, it motivates them that they can do it too, and also allows them to be social with their peers. For my SpEd students, I would like to have a few general education students come to teach them how to use and create an ePortfolio.

Enhancing Education

“13% of all school aged children have some sort of developmental delay.” Over the years, there have been several different ways of teaching, learning, and educating all whether its students, staff, or parents. Technology can assist in teaching in a way that some of us can not. Technology has a way of getting us more interactive, and/ or just wording differently that can help the student understand better.

The main issue with education today is that it is not up to date. Students and staff are engaged in their phones and social media nowadays for pleasure instead of utilizing it to learn. If we locate and build resources where students can learn on a tablet and/or phone will help them be more engaged. Exposing SpEd students to different types of learning can broaden their educational outcome.

Conclusion

As stated earlier, inspiring SpEd students to learn from a different setting can increase social, emotional, and cognitive ability’ not only focuses on inside the classroom, but also focuses on students social ability as well. Using the COVA method, I will develop active learners by changing their mindsets from fixed to growth.
