Part A

Developing a Growth Mindset

After going back and revisiting my Growth Mindset, there are a few things I can improve to get my team and students to switch to a growth mindset. Some factors that I kept in mind that need to be considered when developing the growth mindset are that everyone doesn’t get motivated the same and needs an extra push. Changing your student's and team's mind to develop a growth mindset takes a lot of time and patience. Modeling the growth mindset means as an educator you are not afraid to make mistakes. You are open to students' feedback and you have to model that to them.

Organizing Assignments

Whether you are a teacher or student, old or young, creating significant learning environments will always be important. Creating Significant Learning Environments (CLSE) teaches us how to create a new culture of learning and what creating a learning significant environment looks like and how we can create them. CSLE breaks down why learning environments are just as important. Students will not be able to focus in an environment with lots of distractions/ too little distractions, lots of noise/ too little noise, etc. students and generations are becoming more difficult to teach, and keeping them engaged is even harder.  Students are not just learners and teachers are not just teachers. That's why in my learning philosophy, I discussed how my ultimate goal is to have everyone be considered a teacher and a learner. My learning philosophy impacts my innovation proposal by giving the students a chance to also teach and learn from their peers.

Utilizing Fink’s 3 Column Table, allowed me to outline how I will develop lesson plans for my students to learn about ePortfolio’s and how to use them for classroom learning. The learning environment and situational factors allowed me to think about my goals for my students with this lesson and what I want them to be able to accomplish by the end of the course. Wiggins and McTighe’s (2005) Understand by Design (UbD) template allowed me to dig deeper into the lesson. This template allows greater detail about the lesson and because of its granular structure, UbD’s template is more effective for designing smaller units of instruction with much greater detail.

Conclusion

I really enjoy learning more about growth mindsets and how to not only develop one but also keep it. Growth mindsets and CSLE influenced my innovation proposal by tweaking my thought process to see the bigger picture. Having a growth mindset is not something you should just pick up and throw away. It's a continuous process that you have to work for. Tweaking my lessons to fit each of my students is challenging, but also very beneficial at the end of the course.
