I went into this eight-week course with confidence and ready to graduate. I wasn't really stressed or anxious, I knew what to expect and I was just ready to tackle my one and only course. Patrick, Bethany, and Rachel have always been a good help to me ever since we started the ADL courses together, and we just added another peer, Stacie, to the group.
During 5318, We created an Instructional Design and our Implementation. I put together the Google Classroom course I will be implementing for my students starting March 20th. I developed a 5-week course with the help of my paraprofessionals so students can learn what ePortfolios are, use for, and for them to create their own. Week 1 is an introduction, Week 2 allows them to get started, week 3 is about implementing blog posts and mini-lessons, week 4 is about students continuing to work, week 5 is a pre-assessment, and week 6 is the actual one-by-one assessment. When designing this course for Special Education students, was not easy, luckily all of my students are familiar with using technology and Google Classrooms, the most difficult part would be creating their ePortfolio. I had to think about each student's ability and disability and think about what they could and could not do.
Designing this course required a lot of trial, and error, and thinking about what I wanted students to learn each week. We also had to find students or peers to take a Usability Test. This test allowed students and teachers to go through each of the modules and provide feedback or feedforward on the course. I did not utilize my students for the usability test however, the students I did use still qualify for IEP services and the teachers teach SpEd kids so they understood what to look for. Students had such positive feedback and even asked their teacher if they could also take this course and make an ePortfolio. The teachers on the other hand did have some feedback for me which was expected. They suggested that I added a 6th week to fully assess students independently. I added the last 6 weeks after my peers took my usability test. The teachers also asked me to add my ePortfolio so students can have examples of the teacher they see every day. During this usability test, I realized the more details you have available, the fewer questions students and teachers will have.
I honestly enjoyed class 5318. Designing a full course on my own was challenging but it was also very rewarding. This was my first time designing a course and the feedback I got for my peers was very lovely and beneficial. The score I give myself will be a 79 because I did not meet the key contribution of me meeting the deadline for the activities. I am the type to start an assignment way ahead of time but still miss the deadline because I think I have a lot of time. I still completed the assignments and received great feedback for me to go in and tweak some of the assignments. Overall this was a great class and I am one class closer to graduation.
